MAGGIE – ISABELLA BRIDAL

I’ve been here 6 years. There used to be a wedding cake shop down the road and there’s another bridal shop, but lately there are a lot of shutters down. We looked in Manchester and around Stockport, and we chose here. In the shopping centres there are restrictions on opening and closing times, but being on the Underbanks you don’t have to do that. You can open early for a bride or close late if you want to.

Brides come from all over to see us not just Stockport. They come from Manchester, Buxton, further than that. Abby is probably our best seller, but I’d say Hallie is my favourite – a simple off the shoulder dress. I’m glad I got married before I started working here, if we got married now I might have to have one for the day and one for the evening.

When we opened there were lots more shops open. Across from us used to be a newsagents, but now we look out to the pink elephant graffitied on the shutters. They paint them to make them look more appealing. I preferred when it was open, it was busier. I’d like it if there were more restaurants opening, there’s cafes, but no restaurants. That would bring more people to the area. It’s always quieter when the weather is nice.
